Back to Nihonbashi
Merchants from all over the country and from all walks of life came to the Nihonbashi district, where Iki takes place, making it the largest commercial center in Japan. There was a fish market, kabuki and yose (vaudeville) theaters, and the gold (Kinza) and silver (Ginza) guilds were established there, and in addition to minting coins, they attracted residents and cultural figures from all over the country. The wealthy merchants, together with the feudal lords and the various houses in the region, developed the cultural activities of the city of Edo.
The first Nihonbashi Bridge was built in 1603. The Nihonbashi River and the many surrounding moats were used for the movement of boats, bringing goods from all over Japan!
