The design of the Hurdy Gurdy by Ugears-Models is based on the original prototype, so includes the body, front and rear plates, gears, crank, neck, tuning pins, strings and springs, which together form a magnificent instrument. This do-it-yourself mechanical musical model is easy to play, creating sound as the wheel you turn rubs against the strings, forming the melody.
The Vielle à Roue's tuning pins have a gear mechanism for finer tuning of the sympathetic and drone strings. For a clearer sound, you can mute the drone with a small piece called a "dog" held on the soundboard. In addition, we added a gear to the crank (handle) to increase the number of wheel rotations. This enabled us to achieve a smoother, richer sound while preserving the compact size of the model itself.
6 keys make up the keyboard, with elastics and cranks in the keyboard to ensure smoother, more practical playing. The model features a melody string and a drone string forming a continuous chord in the background. The 6 keys correspond to 6 notes that are played by pressing them while turning the crank. Released keys provide an additional seventh note. The second string (drone) is tuned by tuning the pawn in unison with the melody string, or to any melodic interval (quarter, fifth, octave). The Ugears-Models Hurdy Gurdy is a musical instrument in its own right. It's easy to play rhythmic melodies, from folk to modern.
